But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. – John 1:12

Sara, a 16-year-old from the foster care system, carried the heavy burden of a past scarred by trauma and rejection. Through countless foster homes and facing the bitter sting of abandonment, Sara struggled to believe she was worthy of love. Then, amidst her darkest hour, John and Kathy entered her life, extending the gift of adoption.

Transitioning from foster care to family life was an intimidating journey for Sara. However, her new parents refused to give up on her. With their unwavering love and support, Sara underwent a remarkable transformation. She shed her defensive behaviors and started seeing John and Kathy as her mom and dad.

Like Sara, many of us carry the weight of our past hurts, disappointments, and insecurities. We long for acceptance, belonging, and identity in a world filled with brokenness and longing. Yet, amidst our search for significance, God extends His arms of love to us, inviting us into His family through faith in Jesus Christ.

John 1:12 reminds us that when we accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord, we are no longer slaves to fear or sin; we are given the incredible privilege of becoming children of God. This identity is not earned through our efforts or merit but is graciously bestowed upon us when we receive and believe in Jesus Christ.

As children of God, we are heirs to His promises, cherished and deeply loved by our Heavenly Father. Our past mistakes, insecurities, and societal labels no longer define us; our identity in Christ sets us free to live in the fullness of His grace and love.
