And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. – Hebrews 13:16
In August 2023, a five-year-old boy returned from a joyful vacation in Lahaina, Maui. Little did he know that within a week, he would witness devastating wildfires engulfing the very place he had just visited, leaving behind smoldering ruins and countless lives and homes lost.
Upon hearing the heartbreaking news, a compassionate spark ignited within the young boy. He immediately suggested a lemonade stand to raise funds for those suffering in Lahaina. His parents wholeheartedly embraced the idea, stocking up on lemonade, ice cream sandwiches, and sparkling water.
Their lemonade stand opened on a bustling Seattle street, and the response was nothing short of astonishing. Despite offering lemonade for just $1 per cup, drivers consistently paid with $5, $10, or $20 bills, often requesting the change be donated. Inspired by their son’s initiative, the boy’s parents got their companies to match the proceeds.
In just one week, this little boy collected an impressive $17,000, which he selflessly sent to Lahaina.
This heartwarming story reminds us that even the youngest among us can make a significant impact when driven by compassion and faith.
The Lord delights in those who give cheerfully and generously, not out of obligation. He assures blessings upon those who joyfully share their gifts. As King Solomon wisely stated in Proverbs 11:24, “One person gives freely and grows richer; another withholds what they should give and suffers want.”
Hebrews 13:16 reinforces this message, emphasizing the importance of doing good and sharing with others. Such selfless acts are pleasing to God and are considered sacrifices that bring divine pleasure.
