Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. – Colossians 3:23

We often perceive roles like missionaries, pastors, and charity workers as spiritually significant, while jobs such as Software analysts, plumbers, accountants, electricians, or realtors are sometimes undervalued in this regard.

However, Colossians 3:23 challenges this mindset. It reminds us that every task, when performed with wholehearted dedication to the Lord, holds significance in the kingdom of God. Whether we’re crunching numbers, designing buildings, selling homes, or fixing electrical wiring, our work can be a form of worship when done with the intention of serving God.

Our work is not merely a means to earn a paycheck but an opportunity to honor and glorify God. From the very beginning, God intended for humanity to work. In Genesis 2:15, before sin entered the world, God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to work and take care of it. Work is not a curse but a blessing and a holy calling.

If work is meant to be good, why do many people hate it? It’s all about perspective.

Here are a few thoughts that can help redefine your perspective on work:

  • View your work as your mission field, where you serve God through daily tasks.
  • Consider every aspect of your work as an act of worship to the Lord, offering your best efforts to Him.
  • Recognize work as a blessing and an opportunity to obey God by doing your best.

Let’s approach work with renewed purpose and dedication, seeing it as an avenue to serve, create, and worship our Creator. May our hearts be filled with joy as we work diligently, knowing that our labor is not in vain when done for the Lord.
